BSR Working group on Building Preservation and Maintenance in Practice 2000-2009 

The built heritage in the region is characterised by its natural resources. Traditional building materials, such as wood, limestone and lime mortar were used in construction and restoration until the World War II, when new industrial building materials came on the market in full force.

A struggle to regain and restore the knowledge about the use of traditional building materials and techniques started in the Nordic countries in the 1970s. Collaboration for sharing the know-how gained as well as best practices with the Baltic States started in the 1990s.

Working group on Building Preservation and Maintenance in Practice was established in 2000 to widen this collaboration all over the region in forms of exchange of knowledge and expertice, projects and practical workshops. 

Reports:

  • Traditional building materials in the Baltic Sea region maps accessibility to traditional materials, such as brick, lime mortar and paint, on the regional level (2003). 
  • BSR Workshop on plaster conservation (2003)
  • The codes of ethics of conservation have been concluded in the ‘Managing traditional buildings’ -report (2001).
