The regional heritage
cooperation was initiated by the Ministers of Culture of the Baltic Sea States
in 1997. Thereby the Monitoring Group on cultural heritage (MG) started its
collaboration, streamlined by the Ministerial meetings. The 9th Meeting of the
Ministers of Culture took place September 2015 in Gdansk in the framework of
the conference "Culture as a driving force for social and economic
development of the region".
The members of MG represent
the state agencies in charge of cultural heritage management. Since 2011, the
MG acts as an intergovernmental working-group of the Council of the Baltic Sea
States (CBSS) contributing to its long-term priority on regional identity. The
MG chairmanship follows the CBSS
Presidencies by a troika model composed of in-coming, acting and senior MG
a member of the EUSBSR PA Culture Steering Group. In addition, it collaborates
with other regional stakeholders, and follows work of relevant regional,
European and international organizations and projects.
