The maritime heritage of the Baltic Sea is
exceptionally versatile and well preserved even in a global comparison. To
date, these cultural assets are barely included in Maritime Spatial Planning
(MSP) in the Baltic Sea.
BalticRIM -project initiative aims at integrating cultural
heritage resource management into MSP, using the opportunity of the ongoing
processes driven by the MSP Directive across all BSR countries. It will contribute
to the sustainability in the MSP processes, thereby supporting
regional efforts of exemplary MSP implementation in a global scale.
The project partners are state agencies in charge of cultural heritage management as well as MSP experts in the Baltic Sea area. The partnership’s expertise is underpinned by academic involvement and engagement of other stakeholders. The HELCOM-VASAB Joint Working MSP Group as well as the BSSSC-network of sub-regional organisations support the project.
The project partners are prepared to launch the project in September 2017 - decision regarding the BSR Interreg financing shall be decided in May 2017.
The project has received the flagship status by the EUSBSR PA Culture. The project initiative is a follow-up to the Monitoring Group"s strategic project Pro BSR, part-financed by the CBSS Project Support Facility 2014-2015, and was developed on cross-sector basis within the EUSBSR Seed Money project MSP & MCH during 2016.
